Looking out over a serene golf course and a bustling airport from her office on Concord Avenue‚ Yvonne Gamble smiles. She can’t help but note how the contrasting panorama exemplifies part of Concord’s allure for high-tech companies such as her own.

“Concord offers the best of all worlds in a friendly atmosphere that encourages growth and expansion‚” says Gamble‚ CEO of Outersphere Communications‚ a global provider of managed Internet protocol-based communica tions services. “It has a rich infrastructure that is ripe for the infusion of technology.”

After an exhaustive search for the right location for the company’s corporate headquarters nearly two years ago‚ Gamble chose Concord for its pro-business environment‚ progressive leadership and quality of life.

“I wanted a community with stability‚” says Gamble‚ whose growing business includes satellite offices across the United States and around the world. “This was a place where I felt like our company could be based for the next 100 years‚ and we’d still feel good about it.”

Gamble points to the installment of citywide Wi-Fi technology as an example of Concord’s commitment to communications and applauds local leaders for their open mindset regarding future economic development.

“We were looking for a city that not only knew the value of communications but‚ more importantly‚ took steps to assure that businesses and community members gained uninhibited access to new communications technologies‚” Gamble says. “It was the absolute right choice to make for our corporate headquarters.”

Seated at the foot of three major highway arteries and boasting a business-friendly airport with expansion plans in the works‚ Concord is also home to large multinational firms such as Siemens Medical Solutions‚ one of the world’s largest suppliers of medical technologies.

The company’s Oncology Care Systems group‚ which is the world’s second largest manufacturer of radiotherapy systems‚ is based in Concord and is on the leading edge in the race to find a cure for cancer.

A few yards away from Siemens is the corporate headquarters for Sea Tel‚ the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial shipboard stabilized antenna platforms for satellite communications‚ satellite television and satellite weather systems.

Since it was founded 23 years ago‚ Sea Tel has grown consistently‚ averaging better than 20 percent growth over the past seven years.

Further down the road is the corporate headquarters for Sardorius Stedim Biotech‚ another high-tech firm growing by leaps and bounds. The company‚ which designs and manufactures flexible plastic containers for the world’s largest health-care and pharmaceutical companies‚ opened its Concord facility in 1990.

In 2003‚ the company doubled the size of its Concord plant to include 60‚000 square feet‚ with 9‚000 square feet of clean rooms to meet the highest standards of sterile manufacturing.

According to Sergio Blumenblat‚ the company’s director of marketing‚ Sardorius Stedim Biotech expects continued growth at the Concord facility.

“This is a very strategic location for biopharmaceutical companies‚” Blumenblat says. “Most of the biggest names in the business are located within 30 minutes of here. There is also a highly qualified labor pool here‚ with universities such as UC Berkely and UC Davis nearby.”
